The coveted \u2018Grandmaster\u2019 title that he earned later at the age of 12 made him the fifth youngest person ever to do so. Fondly called &#8216;Pragg&#8217;, the grandmaster defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen three times in a row in 2022, thus becoming a household name. The last of the three defeats was at FTX Crypto Cup in Miami, an international chess championship held in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\">South India is overjoyed to see their young prince on the list of Arjuna Awardees, which was announced earlier this month. The champ went on to win the under-10 title in 2015.\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">In 2016, b<\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">ecoming a grandmaster required winning three \u2018norms\u2019. Praggnanandhaa achieved his first norm at the World Junior Chess Championship in 2017, finishing fourth with eight points. He gained his second norm at the Heraklion Fischer Memorial GM Norm tournament in Greece in April 2018. In June 2018 he achieved his third and final norm at the Gredine Open in Urtij\u00ebi, Italy at the age of just 12 years, 10 months, and 13 days.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What a wonderful feeling it must be for Pragg. By the time he was three-and-a-half, he would hang around watching his sister, female grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu play. His father, Rameshbabu, a banker at the Tamil Nadu State Apex Co-operative Bank, takes care of all the details involved in managing the household\u2019s two grandmasters. The class 12 commerce student at Velammal in Chennai gets support from his school as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"x_paragraph\"><strong><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">My school supports me immensely and allows me to take leave to play tournaments and practice.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"> <span class=\"x_eop\">It hardly needs to be said that Praggnanandhaa rarely misses practice. \u201cThe duration might vary based on tournament schedules and exam timetables but I always manage to give it my time.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24785 aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/banner_Praggnandhaa.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1200\/630;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24785 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/banner_Praggnandhaa.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"x_paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\"><b>Impressive journey&#8230;<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">Praggnanandhaa began traveling abroad for tournaments at the tender age of seven. &#8220;I have lost count,&#8221; he says, pausing to think about it. &#8220;I have probably visited 30 countries.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span>No matter where he goes, his focus remains unwavering, concentrating on one thing only \u2013 the game that he is there to play. There is hardly time for trivialities like sightseeing.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\">To emphasise this, Praggnanandhaa said:<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"x_paragraph\"><strong>My favourite place?
