The youngster, who first learned about the competition in a college magazine, had dreamed of bringing home a medal ever since. In 2022, she managed it, becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal. This was the 46th edition of the competition, which is held every alternate year in a new country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally scheduled to be held in Shanghai, then postponed by the pandemic, the WorldSkills 2022 is something of a \u2018special edition\u2019, also because it was held across 15 countries instead of a single venue. India was represented across 50 skill categories, with participants bringing home two silvers, three bronzes and 13 medallions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Plan to win\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThrough my college magazine I had learned that Mohit Dudeja had brought India a silver medal in the patisserie and confectionery category in 2017,\u201d says the alumnae of IHM Aurangabad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25866\" style=\"width: 732px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25866\" class=\"wp-image-25866 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Nandita.jpg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"722\" height=\"774\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 722px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 722\/774;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25866\" class=\"wp-image-25866 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Nandita.jpg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"722\" height=\"774\" \/><\/noscript><p id=\"caption-attachment-25866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nandita during the WorldSkills Competition held at Lucerne, Switzerland<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nandita had discovered her love for baking as a child and when she heard of Dudeja, she pored over his Instagram profile. She was deeply inspired by one post, in which Dudeja had written, \u201cIf you have the skills, you must participate and be confident of winning.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nandita made up her mind to participate too, she tells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Global Indian<\/em><\/a>. She travelled to Lucerne, Switzerland, for the competition, going up against people from 15 countries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, Government of India, has been leading the nation\u2019s participation on the WorldSkills Platform. \u201cOur training sessions for the competition were organised by the government,\u201d says Nandita. Apart from the six days of events, the competitors enjoyed excursion trips. \u201cIt gave us an opportunity to get to know each other and develop friendships,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Stepping into the world of hospitality\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passing out from Amity International School in Noida, Nandita went on to pursue a degree in hotel management. \u201cUnfortunately, due to Covid-19, it was just one and a half year of in-college experience. But five months of intensive in-house training in hospitality management at Taj Vivanta, Aurangabad proved very helpful.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nandita also did an internship at Lavonne Hospitality, subsequently getting a job there, which helped her hone her skills even further. There, she was mentored by the senior chefs, who, upon learning that she was participating at the WorldSkills competition, wholeheartedly guided her. \u201cIt was good for me that the competition was postponed due to the pandemic. The delay helped me polish my skills and learn enough to bring home the silver medal,\u201d Nandita remarks. \u201cMost of the modules required for the competition were covered by my mentors, and the rest was taken care of at the government organised workshop,\u201d says the pastry chef, who always looks forward to learning new things.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25867\" style=\"width: 793px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25867\" class=\"wp-image-25867 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Nandita-with-instructors.jpg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"783\" height=\"534\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 783px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 783\/534;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25867\" class=\"wp-image-25867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Nandita-with-instructors.jpg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"783\" height=\"534\" \/><\/noscript><p id=\"caption-attachment-25867\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professionals at Lavonne Academy prepared her for different modules\u00a0 &#8211; Anosh Ranbhise, chocolate showpiece, Prathana Narang entremet, Vinesh Johnny, sugar stand and overall training, Joonie Tan, fondant, and Mani chef, bonbons<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For WorldSkills challenge, participants begin with a regional round and graduate to the national round, with the winners going on to represent the country on the global platform. The national winners are assigned an expert, who train them for the international challenge. That\u2019s how Nandita became a prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of Vinesh Johnny, one of the cofounders of Lavonne Academy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Baking and tennis\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The multifaceted youngster has been a national level lawn tennis player. \u201cI started baking at the age of six and playing tennis at eight,\u201d she says. She spent her school years juggling her academics, baking and tennis. \u201cI was six years old when I decided I wanted to be a pastry chef and at 16, I started catering neighbourhood orders for cakes and pastries,\u201d Nandita says.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25864 aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/banner_2.jpeg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"1072\" height=\"818\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1072px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1072\/818;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25864 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/banner_2.jpeg\" alt=\"Indian youth | Nandita Saxena | Global Indian \" width=\"1072\" height=\"818\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nandita played tennis under the aegis of The All India Tennis Association, the governing body of tennis in India. \u201cSince I grew up in Noida, I played several tournaments representing Uttar Pradesh,\u201d says the youngster, whose all-India rank was 77 in the under -18 categories. \u201cI have also represented Uttar Pradesh several times in national competitions organised by CBSE,\u201d she adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>From prot\u00e9g\u00e9 to mentor\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nandita comes from a family which is artistically inclined.
