{"id":43944,"date":"2025-10-12T07:00:52","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T01:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/?post_type=story&#038;p=43944"},"modified":"2025-10-14T19:43:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T14:13:26","slug":"anant-patel-building-bridges-through-art-and-empathy","status":"publish","type":"story","link":"https:\/\/old.globalindian.com\/youth\/story\/cover-story\/anant-patel-building-bridges-through-art-and-empathy\/","title":{"rendered":"Anant Patel: Building bridges through art and empathy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>(October 12, 2025) <\/strong>Seventeen-year-old Anant Patel, born in Orlando, Florida, carries a conviction that art can heal divides. \u201cMy mission is simple,\u201d he tells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalindian.com\/youth\/story\/cover-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Global Indian<\/em><\/a>. \u201cTo bridge generational and religious gaps through art, poetry, and most importantly, understanding.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A senior at Orlando Science School, Anant has founded the Bridging Generations Initiative, a project that uses art and poetry to connect with elderly communities, many of whom have lived through decades of separation, migration, and change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At home, Anant moves easily between worlds: Gujarati and American, tradition and modernity. \u201cBoth of my parents grew up in Gujarat, India,\u201d he shares, \u201cand immigrated to the U.S. over 20 years ago. Working mostly independently, though occasionally with his friend Aiden Ortega<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who assists with some of the artworks, Anant has been sharing his art with <\/span>seniors<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Each piece, delivered digitally, carries a message of empathy and shared humanity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is currently in discussions to expand the initiative by sending art to senior homes in different places in the U.S. \u201cI\u2019m also collaborating soon with the <\/span>Gujarati Samaj of Central Florida<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d he informs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Beyond borders<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growing up he often encountered narratives that shaped how people viewed \u201cthe other.\u201d \u201cThese messages weren\u2019t always overt or hateful,\u201d he explains. I realized that peace doesn\u2019t begin with institutions or governments. It begins with individuals who choose to see one another as human first.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That realization became the moral compass behind his work. Through art and poetry, he seeks to \u201ccelebrate coexistence, compassion, and forgiveness.\u201d Each brushstroke, he says, \u201cis a reflection of the belief that no matter our faith or background, we all are human.
